Friends,
I have learned a great deal while coping with the illness and death of my daughter, Heather. In fact, each of our family members have a lesson to share. My husband, daughter and I now view life with a more loving, compassionate heart and a bolder spirit.

Throughout the website we have stressed Heather’s mantra, “Register to be an organ donor and be sure to talk to your family about your decision”. In addition to talking to your family about organ donation, I believe it is equally important to talk about the plans and wishes of each family member in advance of a crisis. After losing our daughter, I realized one of the greatest gifts our family members can give us is to know their wishes for the decisions that follow.

When I was young, my father and I talked after the unexpected loss of his sister. He told me, “Death is a natural part of life’s experiences.” I didn’t want to think about it and talking about it was awkward. I felt if we didn’t discuss it, it wouldn’t happen. Many of us choose not to make plans or discuss death for the same reason. However, we know eventually someone we love will die.

Both my husband and I had parents with living wills. When they provided their wills for us, they relieved us of many burdens. We used those wills as we honored their wishes and said goodbye to our wonderful and loving parents. It was such a help to us!!! Likewise, Heather made her intentions known that we should support organ donations and transplantation. Throughout this website, we have tried to fulfill her wishes and spread her life-affirming message. I pray the information and ideas we have shared on the website will resonate with you, providing encouragement and blessings for you and your families.

Many blessings,
Judy Trew
